About the Project
Melding ancient myth and esoteric philosophy, The Water Carrier is a mythic psychological drama exploring purpose, autonomy, objectification, and possession.
Inspired by the story of Ganymede, the film asks: what happens after “happily ever after”?
What follows is a descent into chaos, transformation, and rebirth.
Our Mission:
The Water Carrier seeks to expand LGBTQ+ representation in cinema while contemplating universal human experiences of purpose, identity, and transformation. We follow Ganymede as he evolves from a sheltered object into a free, ambiguous, and self-determined individual.
Too often, queer narratives are framed as moral lessons or tragedies. This film instead treats transformation as mythic, sensual, and psychologically complex — allowing beauty and monstrosity to coexist.
Our team is committed to creating visually striking, emotionally grounded work that bridges classical imagery with contemporary realism. We are telling this story now because its feels urgent —because identity and agency are under attack — and because myth remains one of the most powerful ways to express them.
Meet the Filmmaker
Henry Larsen is a New York–based actor, visual artist, and model, and the writer, director, and star of The Water Carrier, his directorial debut.
Born and raised in Manhattan, he trained at the William Esper Studio, studying the Meisner Technique. His screen credits include Doctor Doctor, Cheeky, Cabin in the Woods (Investigation Discovery), and NBC’s Manifest.
Note from Henry:
As the writer, director, and lead of The Water Carrier, I’m thrilled to bring this story to life.
My fascination with mythology began at a young age. When I encountered the myth of Ganymede, I saw a powerful opportunity to reinterpret it through a modern, cinematic lens.
What began as a personal meditation evolved into something larger — a story about identity, transformation, and reclaiming agency.
This film is deeply personal, but its themes are universally poignant. My hope is that audiences identify with Ganymede — with both his beauty and his struggle — and recognize the possibility for transcendence in their own lives.
Bringing The Water Carrier to life has been both challenging and profoundly rewarding. I’m grateful to be working alongside a team of passionate artists, including our Director of Photography, Matt Hayes.
Together, we are committed to telling this story with precision, care, and emotional truth — and to creating a film that challenges, moves, and inspires its audience.
